As Christians, we are a light to the world; a testimony of the grace given us through Jesus Christ. Our neighbors are watching. What do they see when they look at our families? What do they overhear? Shouting? Laughter? What do the cashiers observe when we go through the checkout line with a tired and cranky two year old? A mom gritting her teeth and giving the “you’re-gonna-get-it-when-we-get-to-the-car” look, or a mom who takes a deep breath and prays, “Oh God, give me Your love and patience to pass on to this child of ours! I am in need, Father.”
~ MINISTRY BEGINS AT HOME ~
The Bible says to put your family before your ministry,
“He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?” (ESV, 1 Timothy 3.4-5)
The Bible says that ministers have to first manage their own households. This passage primary refers to leading a family, but it can also apply to caring and loving the family, devoting one another into the knowledge of the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ before they can extend their care, love and service to other people in the body of Christ.
Devotional time is essential to growing your faith and trust in Christ as you strive to follow Him every day. Family devotions are a great way to encourage parents and teach children about the importance of studying the Word of God. With each new stage of your children’s lives, there are new issues and new worries. Instead of trying to follow what the world tells you to do, take your family before the Lord in prayer and study what the Bible tells parents!
